Getting started with internet banking

Registering for online banking

If you became a member prior to 23 September 2013 you can register by contacting us here. You need to be a member and a signatory on your account if you are under 18. 

All new members after this date are automatically registered for online banking.

What is an access code?

An access code is your password to internet banking.

What happens if I forget or misplace my access code?

If you have forgotten or misplaced your access code, please contact us or alternatively speak to us via web chat 8.00am and 5pm, weekdays. Learn about other ways to change your access code.

  1. Visit our website
  2. Click on the Internet Banking button in the top right hand corner.

Logging in using a mobile or tablet

  1. Visit our website
  2. Click on the menu button in the top right hand corner. This menu appears as three horizontal lines - known as a burger menu on devices like most smart phones and smaller tablets, or can also appear as the internet banking button.
  3. After tapping on the menu, the Internet Banking button will appear at the top of your screen.
  4. Tap on the Internet Banking button to bring up the log in screen.

What security measures can I take?

There are some simple precautions you can take to maximise your online security:

Change your access code regularly - we recommend that you change it at least monthly and not to use obvious conventions such as date of birth, telephone number or address. Do not disclose your access code to anyone, including family members. Never leave your computer unattended while logged on to internet banking. If other people can access your computer you should set your browser not to cache secure web pages, so that there will be no record of your account information left on your computer. Ensure that current anti-virus software is running on your computer at all times and is regularly updated. Ensure you have the latest version of your chosen browser.

What are the system guidelines when using internet banking?

We ensure internet banking is accessible via Windows and Apple Macintosh systems. See system requirements and guidelines. It is possible that operating systems and browsers which are not listed will still be compatible with internet banking. To ensure you can take advantage of all the features available in internet banking, and to protect yourself online, you should regularly update your operating system and browser.

If I do a transfer of funds in internet banking, how long will it take?

Immediately (Excluding any future dated payments) within Teachers Mutual Bank. Funds transferred to other Australian financial institutions including BPAY® will take 1-2 working days.

What is my online banking daily transfer limit?

By default the daily transfer limit is $5,000 which applies to all payments and transfer to non-Teachers Mutual Bank accounts and BPAY® billers. You can increase or decrease this limit by contacting us here.

How can I redraw funds from a loan account?

Redrawing from your loan account can be completed via internet banking or mobile banking:
  1. Select the loan from which you wish to redraw 
  2. Select the appropriate transfer type you would like to do - Transfer or BPAY and continue with the redraw transaction.

What should I do if I notice a transaction on my account which I believe I didn't make?

Contact us immediately.

How do I cease using internet banking?

Please notify us in writing.

Can I transfer funds to an account at another financial institution?

Yes, you can transfer funds to another account within Australia by selecting the Payments menu. You will need the BSB, account number and account name of the receiving account.

Payments and transfers to non-Teachers Mutual Bank accounts take 1 to 2 business days to be received by the other Australian financial institution.

Can I schedule automatic payments and transfers?

Yes, you can set up future dated payments to pay bills or transfer funds using internet banking. Simply select the Pay Later option when making the payment. This will allow you to nominate a Single Future Payment or a Regular Future Payment including the frequency of the payment.

When I select the internet banking ‘Login’ button, why does it bring me back to the home page?

If the internet banking log on page is not opening when you select the internet banking ‘Login’ button on our home page, it may have been blocked by a pop-up blocker.

There are a number of pop-up blockers that you may have on your system. Most can be either disabled or configured, to allow pop-ups from specific sites.

Internet Explorer has a built in pop-up blocker which is accessible from the Tools menu. If you choose to leave it enabled, add to the exception list.

Alternatively a firewall may be blocking access to the page. If this is the case you will need to contact the software vendor for further assistance.

I am unable to download my transaction history? If you are unable to download your transaction history it may be due to the file download prompt being blocked. If you are using a Microsoft Windows computer hold down the CTRL (Control) key when requesting the download.

What is a One-time password?

A one-time password is a six digit security code sent to your mobile phone via SMS or via a security token.

When will you need to use an one-time password?

  • Adding a new personal payee or updating an existing 
  • Transferring funds to a new or unregistered payee 
  • Viewing/Performing maintenance on your contact details or account 
  • Changing your online banking access code

Do I have to enter a one-time password each time I complete a transaction?

No. You only need to use one-time password once per internet banking session.

If I have previously made a payment, but have not saved that payment as a ‘personal payee’, will I require a one-time password to send funds with the new internet banking?

For previously made payments (internal or external) that have not been saved as a ‘personal payee’, one-time password will be required in the new online banking. Once saved in ‘personal payees’ (Using 'Nickname for future use') one-time password will never be required again.

What is a secure message in internet banking?

You can use this to send us a secure message without having to leave internet banking. It’s different to Webchat, in that it isn’t a live conversation. You can send us a secure message outside of our business hours.

Can I view previous secure messages that have been sent or received?

You will see all received messages from Teachers Mutual Bank. They will remain visible for 90 days. After this time the messages are removed from view within internet banking. You will NOT be able to see sent messages.
