Design and Distribution Obligations

The Design and Distribution Obligations require financial service providers to have a customer-centric approach to the design and distribution of their financial products.

These new obligations come into effect on 5 October 2021.

As we continue to focus on our product design and distribution strategies to enhance member outcomes, we will update the information on this page.

Target Market Determination

As part of our obligations, we will create a Target Market Determination for each of our products covered by the Design and Distribution Obligations. Each Target Market Determination will outline:

  • the target market: the likely objectives, financial situation and needs of the members for whom the product was designed;
  • the distribution conditions: the conditions and restrictions surrounding how the product can be sold and distributed; and
  • the record and reporting requirements: the events or circumstances that prompt us to review the product and the target market.
