Australia Day Honour for Director

Maree O’Halloran has been named as a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in the Australia Day Honours List this year. The AM was awarded for service to industrial relations and the education sector.

With a teaching career spanning city and country schools, Maree O’Halloran also occupied a number of roles in the NSW Teachers Federation, culminating in becoming President in 2002, till her resignation in 2008. She has also practised as a solicitor for teachers.

A valued member of the Teachers Credit Union Board since 2009, Maree is currently the Director of the Welfare Rights Centre in NSW, where she also practises as a solicitor.

Chair of the Board John Kouimanos said, “Maree believes the award values the collective work of teachers in public education. Nevertheless, it is very pleasing that Maree’s dedication to supporting and empowering her fellow teachers, and her contribution to industrial reform have been recognised.”

“We warmly congratulate her on this exceptional achievement.”
