Scholarship gives a helping hand to future teachers


Aspiring teachers can get assistance to finance their education with a $5,000 Future Teacher Scholarship from Teachers Credit Union.

Applications open Monday, 26 September, for six scholarships for education students that aim to ease day to day financial pressures such as course fees, board and lodging and textbooks.

Steve James, Chief Executive of Teachers Credit Union, said: “Great teachers have the power to motivate, inspire and shape the lives of our children. Our Future Teacher Scholarships provide aspiring teachers with greater financial freedom to pursue their teaching dream and fulfil their potential.”

Eligible applicants must meet the following criteria:
  • Reside in NSW, ACT, WA or NT 
  • Be an Australian citizen or permanent resident 
  • Have completed year 12 (or equivalent) at a school or TAFE/CIT in NSW, ACT, WA and NT 
  • Be completing a Bachelor, Diploma or Master of Education in any education institution in NSW, ACT, WA or NT 
  • Be a member, or be eligible to be a member of Teachers Credit Union 
  • Have completed the application form and attachments 
  • Not be the recipient of a scholarship from any other institution or government department

About Future Teacher Scholarship

Since 2008, Teachers Credit Union has distributed $70,000 of Future Teacher Scholarships to 14 teachers across NSW, ACT, NT and WA.
