Teachers Credit Union helps QLD teachers replace resources

With the help of Teachers Credit Union, flood-affected Queensland teachers will be able to replace classroom resources lost in the 2011 floods and Cyclone Yasi.

Working together with SchoolAid, the national schools-based philanthropy network, the credit union has donated $100,000 to create the ‘Teachers Credit Union Resources Replacement Program’ to provide educators in 32 flood-affected schools in both Queensland and Victoria with important funding to help reinstate equipment and resources lost or damaged during this year’s natural disasters.

Steve James, Chief Executive Officer of Teachers Credit Union, said; “During the floods and cyclone, many teachers lost valuable teaching resources and tools they had personally collected and built up over many years. In many cases these were items that added significant value to their classroom teaching such as books, videos, puzzles and literacy resources.”

“As the only national credit union for teachers and their families, Teachers Credit Union was determined to help these teachers get their classrooms back to normal, and replenish the things they lost.”

Teachers Credit Union partnered with SchoolAid’s Flood Relief Appeal to identify and support schools affected by these natural disasters in early 2011. The schools each received a donation of up to $3,000 to replace lost and damaged teacher resources.

Julie Martin, SchoolAid’s Chief Operating Officer said; “In so many cases during the floods and cyclones, our teachers lost items collected over many years to supplement their teaching, funded out of their own pockets. Teachers Credit Union’s generous donation alleviates the financial burden on the schools to replace these critical teaching tools, and the donation directly helps teachers replace their valuable resources.”
