Teachers Credit Union an 'Employer of Choice for Women'
04 February 2008
Teachers Credit Union has been recognised as a 2008 Employer of Choice for Women (EOCFW) by the Equal Opportunity for Women in the Workplace Agency (EOWA).
Teachers Credit Union Chief Executive Mr Steve James said "As a credit union we are committed to core values of co-operation, fairness and integrity. This translates into how we engage with all our employees, including our commitment to equal opportunity for women, who represent over 70% of our workplace. We are delighted to receive this acknowledgment from the EOWA."
Teachers Credit Union was one of only 99 organisations across Australia who received the 2008 citation, a year which added six new pre-requisites to the selection process. We have not only met these pre-requisites but also helped raise the bar for what it means to be an Employer of Choice for Women.
Director of EOWA Anna McPhee said today, "Employer of Choice for Women organisations understand the importance of ensuring their workplaces are equitable and flexible and are willing to tackle tough issues like pay equity in order attract and retain female staff."
Some of our achievements include:
- We have 7 female managers representing 38.9% of total management1 which is 12.6% higher than the Finance and Insurance sector average.
- We annually review promotion, transfer and turnover statistics and our Employee Turnover rate for 2007 was 7.5%, the lowest recorded in over 20 years and well below industry benchmarks.
- Providing provisions for paid parental leave, carers’ leave, rostered days off, flexible working arrangements and payment of overtime for any additional hours worked.
- We provide health and lifestyle programs, including meditation sessions, stress management courses, subsidised massage and a free relationships and counselling service to enhance our employee's broader well-being.
- Our latest employee survey recorded an overall employee satisfaction rating of 90%.
Mr James said "Whilst we have achieved great results so far, we remain committed to advancing the professional and personal development of all staff and promoting policies of flexibility".
