Teachers Credit Union again an 'Employer of Choice for Women'
18 March 2009
NSW Teachers Credit Union has today been recognised as a 2009 Employer of Choice for Women (EOCFW) by the Equal Opportunity for Women in the Workplace Agency (EOWA).
This is the second year in a row that Teachers Credit Union has gained recognition as an Employer of Choice for Women and was one of only 111 organisations across Australia who received the 2009 citation.
“We are delighted to receive this acknowledgment from the EOWA for the second year running,” said Steve James, Chief Executive of Teachers Credit Union.
“As one of just 22 organisations in the Finance and Insurance sector to be recognsied as a 2009 Employer of Choice for Women, Teachers Credit Union’s values are centred around co-operation, fairness and integrity. This translates into how we engage with all our employees, including our commitment to equal opportunity for women, who represent over 70% of our workforce.”
Director of EOWA Anna McPhee said today, ‘Employers work hard to get on this list because despite the economic downturn, many are acutely aware of the need to attract and retain women for sustainability in the long term.”
Some of Teachers Credit Union’s achievements include:
- 36.8% of managers are women which is 12.6% higher than the Finance and Insurance sector average.
- Promotion, transfer and turnover statistics are reviewed annually. Employee Turnover rate for 2008 was 8%, which is well below finance industry benchmarks.
- Leadership, professional development and multi-skilling programs are available to relevant staff, and are currently accessed by more women than men.
- There are provisions for paid parental leave, carers’ leave, rostered days off, flexible working arrangements and payment of overtime for any additional hours worked.
- Health and lifestyle programs are provided, including meditation sessions, stress management courses, subsidised massage and a free relationships and counselling service to enhance employee’s broader well-being.
- Latest employee survey recorded an overall employee engagement score of 86%.
Mr James said “Whilst we continue to achieve great results, we remain committed to advancing the professional and personal development of all staff and promoting policies of flexibility.”
