About the Teachers Environment Fund

The Teachers Environment Fund was launched in March 2008 to assist public schools and TAFE/CITs to enhance their sustainability. The Fund allocates grants of up to $2,500 bi-annually to help with environmental projects.

Since 2008 the Fund has distributed over $235,000 to 81 schools and 3 TAFE/CITs. $40,000 of this total was contributed by Teachers Mutual Bank on behalf of members who switched from paper to online banking statements.

Past recipients have used the grants for sustainable gardens, native tree planting, indigenous creeks and worm farms. These projects have provided teachers with the opportunity to promote sustainability through practical learning experiences.

Applications for the first round of Teachers Environment Fund 2012 open on May 15 and close on June 29.

Eligibility criteria

The Teachers Environment Fund is open for Teachers Mutual Bank members and their schools or TAFE/CIT colleges in NSW, ACT, NT and WA.

Projects need to demonstrate that they are:

• Viable in the long-term 
• Linked to a broader environmental education strategy 
• Supported by the school and wider community 
• Monitored and measured effectively
• A maximum of $2,500
